LED cabinet lighting: which lights, driver and switch do I need?

Emuca Pyxis LED light bar for kitchen cabinets and shelves

Under-cabinet and shelf lighting makes a kitchen, wardrobe or display unit feel finished. This guide explains the Emuca lights we stock, how to pick the right driver, and the easiest ways to switch them on. If you just want the answer, use our LED driver calculator – it builds the full parts list for you.

1. Light bars or strip?

Light Best for Power Sizes
Pyxis recessed bar A flush finish, set into the underside of wall cabinets or shelves 8 W per metre 2.3 m or 2.9 m, cut to length
Pyxis surface bar Fitting straight onto a cabinet or shelf, no routing 8 W per metre 2.3 m or 2.9 m, cut to length
Lynx COB strip A smooth, continuous line of light without visible dots 9.6 W per metre Sold by the metre
Neonlynx neon strip Flexible accent lighting; IP65 rated 7.2 W per metre 3 m

Warm or natural white? Warm white (2700K) gives a cosy, homely glow. Natural white (4000K) is crisper and better for worktops and wardrobes where you need to see colours properly.

Cutting to length: each extra piece you cut from a Pyxis bar needs a Pyxis accessory kit (end caps and a 1.5 m cable). Each run of COB strip needs a Lynx Z connection cable.

2. Choosing the driver

All of these lights run on 24V, so you need a 24V Emuca SMART driver. To size it:

  1. Add up the watts of every light.
  2. Add 20% so the driver isn't running flat out.
  3. Pick the next driver size up: 15, 30, 60, 90 or 150 W.

Each SMART driver has 6 plug-in outlets, so if you have more than 6 separate lights, use a second driver.

Example Watts +20% Driver
2 × Pyxis 2.3 m under wall cabinets 38 W 46 W 60 W
3 × Pyxis 2.9 m 69 W 83 W 90 W
5 m of COB strip in a wardrobe 48 W 58 W 60 W
10 m of COB strip 96 W 116 W 150 W

3. Switching them on

  • At the plug or an existing switch – the simplest option; the driver plugs into a socket.
  • Hand-wave or motion sensor on the bar – Pyxis sensors fit on the light bar itself, one per piece.
  • Wireless – our wireless kits have a rechargeable transmitter you can stick anywhere, so there's no switch cable to run. Choose a wave switch, touch dimmer, motion sensor or door sensor (great for wardrobes and larders). Add an extra receiver for each extra driver.

4. Collection only
